FAQs

What is HintSwap?
It's a tool for making gift buying simple. You post hints for gifts you would like to receive. You Follow friends, family, relatives, co-workers, etc. Then when it's time to purchase a gift for someone, simply view that person's hints and "Claim" the one you like most. It's easy for them, and easy for you. And this way, people receive gifts they actually want.

What are the "Possible Sources" used for when creating a hint?
The Hint Name and Comments may be enough to describe your hint for others. However, "Possible Sources" can be used to designate where someone might purchase the hint (the Source) and how much it typically costs (the Price). You can add up to five "Possible Sources" in case there are different places your hint can be purchased, and you may want to provide a Description to distinguish between the different items.

If you put a website URL in the Source field, it will be a active link which others can click on to see (and possibly purchase) you hint.

Can I "unclaim" a gift?
Yes, you can "unclaim" a gift. However, you should do so in a timely manner. So if you accidentally claim a hint that you don't intend to give them, simply click the "Unclaim" button on that hint, and it will be returned to its "Unclaimed" status.

Will the owner of a hint know that their hint has been claimed?
The owner can not see if any of their hints have been claimed.

Can others see that I have claimed someone's hint?
No. Anyone who follows a certain person can see that person's list of hints, and each hint will display a status as either:
  • Available
  • Taken
  • Claimed by You
  • Purchased by You
Any hint which you "Claim" (and perhaps later move to "Purchased") will appear as "Taken" to other followers - but they will not know who it was taken by.

If I Decline, Block, or Unfollow someone, will they receive a Notification?
No. Whenever you do one of the following:
  • Decline a Follow Request that was sent to you
  • Block someone who is currently Following you
  • Unfollow someone you are currently Following
... your relationship with the other person will simply be reset to how things were before the Follow action had been taken.
